Physician Report Dates

All Physician created reports will be updated so that the patient visit date and encounter date are labelled correctly in the report header.

  • Report header will include the Pt Admit/Reg Date and Encounter Date
  • Report Footer will include the Encounter Date/Time and Transcription Date/Time

Encounter Date will now display the correct date on Physician reports

The “Active/Cancelled Visits” widget will be added below DIS Portal on the Reference Region for all physicians.

  • Visit information is easily accessible
  • Renaming widget clarifies that both active and cancelled visits are included

CBC w BMP and CBC w CMP Orders

  • The bundled CBC w BMP and CBC w CMP orders create issues in lab. This change would inactivate the bundled orders and use the two standalone orders instead. Part of this change would also fix the Lab Basic Metabolic Panel build and Comprehensive Metabolic Panel build on the Lab side so that the results flow to Plexia correctly.
  • A CBC w BMP convenience order set and a CBC w CMP convenience order set will be created.
  • Impacted order sets will be updated with the two standalone orders.
  • Patients no longer have a second phlebotomy done unnecessarily
  • Reduces chance of delayed testing/results
  • Reduced workload for Lab

Inpatient Flowsheet

  • · A new Inpatient Flowsheet has been created to pull a variety of information into one view. The Flowsheet is located under the Flowsheet tab for physicians and the Clinical Panel tab for nursing.
  • The flowsheet includes the following patient information: Vital Signs, Glucose, Bowel Movements, Labs, Imaging, Microbiology, Pathology, Provider Notes, Nursing Notes, Allied Health Notes, Medication Administrations, Intake & Output, CIWA and COWS.

Flowsheets reduce clicks for physicians and provide one central location for viewing patient information

Physician Reports: Procedures Section

  • A narrative section will be added to the top of the Procedures section and the “Other Procedure” heading will be removed.
  • This change impacts many report templates that have the standard Procedures section, such as the Consult Note, ICU Consult Note, GP OBS Consult and Gen Surgery Consult.

Microbiology Order Changes

All microbiology orders will be updated with the following changes:

  • MIC Source will not be required when placing orders. It will be entered when the specimen is collected.
  • The MIC Source and Penicillin Allergy question will no longer be displayed by default for Microbiology orders. The orders can be expanded to view these.
  • Fewer required fields on orders
  • Orders do not take up as much space on the screen

Imaging Order Changes

  • Clinical Indicators field will be expanded
  • All imaging orders in the ED will default to STAT
  • XR orders: “Portable” field will only display when relevant and will default to “No.”
  • CT and MR orders: “To be protocoled by radiologist?” has been added to all orders. It will default to “Yes” for all orders, except CT head w/o con and CT head c-spine w/o con will default to “No”
  • CT orders: Fields have been reduced, After Hours Radiologist and Protocol have been combined with Comment field.
  • Community Hospitals: Imaging orders completed at WGH will be available under Ambulatory Orders
  • More space to enter clinical indicators
  • Less clicks for imaging orders in the ED
  • Streamlined ordering with fewer questions to answer
  • Clearly indicates that CT and MR orders will be protocoled by radiologist

Physician Education Material

As of June 30, there is now a link on the physician desktop to the Physician Updates website.

The updates website includes a direct link to the Physician Education website. The physician onboarding training module is now available, and tip sheets will be added regularly.

The default sort can be changed so that medications sort by Drug Class instead of Generic Name in Current Orders. Follow the steps here: Default Medication Sort in Current Orders
